November 7, 2006
Back-to-back European Lightweight champion Katie Taylor has punched her way to number one spot in the latest World Amateur Boxing rankings for October.
Taylor, from Bray, won her second European senior women's title on the trot when she convincingly beat Russian, Tatyana Chalaya in her 60Kg final in Warsaw in September.
The 20-year-old Irishwoman had to pull out of her recent Multi-Nations final against French woman Lucie Bertaud (ranked 6th) in Denmark because of a facial injury.
In the men's European rankings, Neiltown' Ken Egan remains third in the light heavyweight division, while the Michael's Athy trio of bantamweight David Oliver Joyce (16), featherweight, Eric Donovan (12), and welterweight, Roy Sheehan (17), are all in the top 20.
