Avondale win appeal
October 19, 2006
Avondale are through to the Wicklow senior hurling championship semi-finals after winning an appeal to the Leinster Council after a fixtures walk-over row.
The appeal was centred around the fact that Wicklow town outfit St. Patrick’s were not thrown out of the championship until after they had given a second walkover. Avondale contended that St. Patrick’s should have ejected from the championship after the first walkover.
Before the second walkover, St. Patrick’s played and beat Avondale. As a result of that defeat, Avondale finished behind Kilcoole and Kiltegan in the race for the last two semi-final places.
Avondale will now meet defending champions Glenealy in the last four.
