Bray Champion Boxer Wins again

January 20, 2007

Katie Taylor took less than one minute to dispatch Teresa Lukasov at the Gort Boxing club in Galway on January 19th.

The world lightweight, and back-to-back European champ, forced the Czech into two standing counts inside the first 50 seconds before the ref stopped the contest.

Taylor, from the St Fergal's club in Bray, was using last nights fight as a warm up for her upcoming meeting with Finland's Eva Walstrom at the Stadium in Dublin on February 2.

The meeting with Walstrom, which is a repeat of the 2005 European lightweight final which Taylor won, will take place on finals night for the 2007 National Senior Championships.

Coach Peter Taylor, who was in his daughters corner in Galway, said they were delighted with the win.

He said: "Lukasov competed in the European Championships last year so she is experienced although it was a fairly one sided affair last night.

"Katie had a touch of the flu before the fight but she performed very well and we are now looking forward to the Walstrom fight."
