UCD 2-0 Bray Wanderers

Goals from Derek Doyle and Conor Sammon gave UCD all three points on a 2-0 scoreline from a fairly low-key League of Ireland Premier Division encounter at Belfield Park.

College were quiet enough in the opening stages, failing to live up to the expectations set following last Friday's trouncing of Waterford United. Instead it was Bray who appeared to have the upper hand.

They saw plenty of action inside the UCD goal mouth with the best opportunity coming on 20 minutes. Former College favourite Alan Cawley found himself in possession to the right of the box but shot straight at goalkeeper Matt Gregg even though Andrei Georgescu and Paul Dunphy were better placed.

The home side came more into the game after that and had their first chance on 26 minutes when Timmy Purcell lobbed Bray net minder Steve Williams but Chris Deans rushed back to clear the ball as it trickled toward the net.

UCD had another excellent chance on 32 minutes but Paul Byrne's low header went agonisingly wide of Williams' right post while Williams got down well to block Conan Byrne's shot on 42.

College suffered a blow for the second half when their new young star Bogdan Oprea, who had taken a knock, failed to appear, being replaced by Doyle.

Then just minutes into the second half it was Bray's turn to make an enforced change when Derek Tyrell came on for Clive Delaney who had taken a nasty fall in the area.

UCD then took the lead out of virtually nothing. Doyle took possession on the left wing and passed three Bray defenders before slotting past Williams in to the bottom left corner of the net.

Paul Byrne should have made it 2-0 on 64 but he shot straight at Williams when clean through.

Number two finally came five minutes into the six added on for Delaney's injury when Sammon pounced on a loose ball to fire past Williams from close range.

UCD: Gregg, Mahon, Kenna, McMillan, McNally, Crowley, C Byrne, Madigan, P Byrne, Purcell (Sammon 78), Oprea (Doyle h/t).

Bray: Williams, Tresson, Deans, Kenny, Delaney (Derek Tyrell 54), Cousins (Gough 66), Duggan, Cawley, Georgescu, Dunphy, David Tyrell (O'Shea 66).

Referee: P Tuite (Dub).
