G.A.A Unveil €5 Million Plans for Rathdrum

Friday, December 14 2007

Wicklow G.A.A. unveiled plans to embark on its biggest ever project in the new year -the construction of a €5 million-plus state of the art training facility for all county teams at Ballinakill, Rathdrum.

Completed in two years time, Victor O'Shaughnessy was at pains to emphasise that the Rathdrum complex would be solely for the purpose of training all county teams, hurling and football, from under-age right up to Senior, and it would never replace existing county grounds.

In his report to convention Victor O'Shaughnessy described the project as the most ambitious in the history of the county. Included in the development will be five, full-size all weather pitches and one will be a full-size astro turf pitch; a hurling wall, and a gymnasium incorporating dressing rooms, treatment rooms and fitness and weight training facilities.

The Management Committee are also said to be pursuing a site for another county facility in the east of the county while upgrading the facility at Arklow is at draft stage.
