WicklowTuesday, April 10 2007Mr. Dick Roche, T.D., the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, has welcomed the allocation of funds totalling 1.63 million under the Sports Capital Programme 2007 to clubs and organisations throughout the county.
The 2007 allocation of funds is a very welcome boost for local sporting clubs and community organisations. This brings the cumulative spend since 1999 from the Governments Sports Capital Grants Scheme in Wicklow to almost 14 million Euro. The national figure of almost 85 million provides grants to over 6,700 sports projects around the country. This represents a significant increase over the 2006 allocations. I am particularly delighted that Eire Og Greystones GAA Club have also received 250,000 for the development of their facilities. I am also grateful to see a 250,000 for St. Patricks GAA, Kilcoole. My good friends in Wicklow Rugby Football Club have been successful in securing 120,000. County Wicklow Lawn Tennis Club are allocated 100,000 for their development. Stratford GAA are amongst the other high achievers with funding of 80,000. A number of clubs have also been successful in securing vital funding towards their ongoing development: Stratford GAA Club 80,000 Rathdrum Rugby Football Club 65,000 Avondale GAA Club 60,000 Wicklow Town Soccer Club 60,000 Baltinglass GAA Club 50,000 Queen Of Peace Adventure YC 40,000 Ballinacor Community Project 35,000 Rathnew GAA Club 35,000 Arklow Sailing Club 15,000 Cobra Gymnastics Club 15,000 Tinahely GAA Club 15,000 Greystones Rowing Club 14,000 Greystones AFC Soccer Club 12,000 Rathdrum Gymastics Club 12,000 I am delighted with the funding given to clubs and organisations in the county this year.
