The 2007 allocation of funds is a very welcome boost for local sporting clubs and community organisations. This brings the cumulative spend since 1999 from the Government’s Sports Capital Grants Scheme in Wicklow to almost €14 million Euro.

The national figure of almost €85 million provides grants to over 6,700 sports projects around the country. This represents a significant increase over the 2006 allocations.

The Minister said, at the top of this year's allocation list receiving €400,000 is Aughrim Community Sports & Leisure Association. I am particularly delighted that Eire Og Greystones GAA Club have also received €250,000 for the development of their facilities. I am also grateful to see a €250,000 for St. Patricks GAA, Kilcoole. My good friends in Wicklow Rugby Football Club have been successful in securing €120,000. County Wicklow Lawn Tennis Club are allocated €100,000 for their development. Stratford GAA are amongst the other high achievers with funding of €80,000. A number of clubs have also been successful in securing vital funding towards their ongoing development:

Stratford GAA Club €80,000
Rathdrum Rugby Football Club €65,000
Avondale GAA Club €60,000
Wicklow Town Soccer Club €60,000
Baltinglass GAA Club €50,000

“I am delighted with the funding given to clubs and organisations in the county this year. I believe that demand for funds far outweighed the funding available and I am absolutely delighted to have been in a position to assist in delivering a fair share of the funds for Wicklow”, the Minister said.
