Wicklow Bookbinders Accept SettlementFriday, August 10 2007The 14 staff members at Reilly Bookbinders in Co Wicklow have ended their four-week occupation of the plant after accepting a settlement to their dispute, which was agreed at the Labour Relations Commission.
The terms provide for the workers to receive between four and eight-weeks pay in lieu of notice from the employer, depending on length of service. In addition the workers will get all holiday pay due to them and payment of wages for the past four weeks that they have been occupying the plant. The redundancy payments due to them will have to be obtained from the insolvency fund operated by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment. The workers are entitled to two weeks pay per year of service. All but one have over 15 years service at Reilly's. The workers had been occupying the plant on the Murrough Industrial Estate in Wicklow town since 18 July. They decided to do so after the company said it was insolvent and could not afford to pay even statutory redundancy entitlements. |
