Wicklow Arts Ignored by Government, says McManusWednesday, April 25 2007I was profoundly disappointed to learn that Wicklow will not get even one cent in funding for arts facilities, as announced yesterday by Arts Minister John O’Donoghue.
There’s are many arts facilities in Wicklow, in urgent need of investment who feel badly let down by the Minister. Centres such as the Kilmantain Arts Centre in Wicklow, The Greystones Arts Festival, The Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray, and the Court House Centre in Tinhealy are doing magnificent work in the arts for the local communities, and yet don’t merit any support from the Fianna Fail Govt. This speaks volumes about the lack of clout that Dick Roche has at cabinet. Co Kerry, Minister O’Donoghue’s own county is of comparable size, and yet managed to secure €2.2m in funding. Funny that! |
