Two men die in N11 collision

Two men in their mid-20s have been killed in a serious road accident on the N11 at the Ballinameesda Bends between the Beehive and the Tap pub. Two others travelling in the same car were critically injured, one of them very seriously. They have been taken to St. Vincents hospital.

The two men died when their car, a wine-coloured Fiat Punto, was in collision with another vehicle, a black Audi, at 8.40am this morning while travelling south. The driver of the second vehicle escaped with minor injuries and shock.

The road was closed for a time for technical examination but has now reopened.

This is the 22nd accident on this stretch of road in the past year. Construction work began two months ago on roadworks to straighten out the notorious bends.

Wicklow Gardai have appealed for anybody who may have witnessed the crash to contact them at 0404-60140.
