Three Blue Flags for WicklowTuesday, June 12 2007County Wicklow has retained its three Blue Flags for bathing water quality.
The North and South Beaches at Brittas Bay and the South Beach at Greystones can fly the flag once again this year. The blue flag presentations were made to local authorities this week at a ceremony on the South Beach in Greystones. They are among 80 bathing areas and three marinas to receive the award. Blue flags are awarded on the basis of compliance with a wide range of conditions including bathing water quality standards. The flags were presented on Tuesday by Environment Minister Dick Roche who congratulated all of those who work towards securing Blue Flags and who help to ensure that there can be pride in the quality of the country’s bathing waters. ‘The Blue Flag Awards are recognition of beach and environmental quality. They are a stamp of quality which reassures beach visitors and helps to attract tourism,’ the minister said adding that they help to motivate and energise the public, raising people’s awareness of their local environment and encouraging them to take better care of it. |
