New Floodlights in Fassaroe turned on

Fassaroe a blaze with light

Friday 23 October, 2009

At the turning on of the floodlights at the soccer pitch in Fassaroe on Thursday 22nd October 2009, Cllr David Grant (FF) on behalf of the Young Peoples Facilities and Services Fund Committee, who provided the funding for the project, paid tribute to the local soccer clubs, youth project and resource centre for all their work in bring this project to fruition.

Cllr Grant also thanked Irish soccer hero, Packie Bonner for taking the time to join with the community and to officially turn on the lights.

“This is just the latest of developments that have been funded by the Young Peoples Facilities and Services Fund here in Fassaroe. It is a great testament to all involved to see the modern youth facility and the range of activities that are provided for young people in the area through the dedication of local youth workers. Tonight marks another milestone in the development of new amenities in the area.

The turning on of the floodlights will start a new era, for a new generation of young people that are active in playing sport in the area. The local clubs have done tremendous work over many years and tonight they can be proud of their efforts and look forward to being able to play under lights during the winter months.

The floodlighting of sports grounds around the town and indeed all over the country provide local clubs with a major boost to extend their level of activities and to encourage young people who are not yet active in sport to become so. From the large number of children here tonight I think those not involved in sport are small in number and I hope that the new additions to Fassaroe will only serve to allow everyone enjoy sport at times that heretofore would not have been possible.”
