Wicklow Blazes the Path for Education on Building Resilient Communities
County Wicklow Partnership fund 8 week Powerdown Course at the Happy Pear
Friday 2 October, 2009
At a time of such economic and energy uncertainty, it is empowering to know that positive action is being taken within our own community. Recently established, the Wicklow Transition Network is one of several countrywide initiatives being set up by individuals concerned about the over-reliance of communities on rapidly shrinking energy and food supplies in the face of global economic crisis.
In response, the local group comprising of community gardeners, permaculture experts and trainers, educators on sustainability and the economy, as well as generally concerned citizens, have teamed up and trained to provide practical solutions in the form of this new 8-week Skilling up for Powerdown Course.
With support from the community’s County Wicklow Partnership, the Skilling up for Powerdown Course kicks off at 7.30pm, Thursday October 8th at the Happy Pear in Greystones. This first workshop is open to all and free. It will introduce interested individuals to the Powerdown concept then they can register for the following 7 weeks which provide an interactive forum to explore practical solutions in areas such as energy, transport, and food that individuals and the community can actually achieve.
