Draft County Heritage Plan now on display

The new Draft County Wicklow Heritage Plan 2009-2014 has been drawn up by the Wicklow Heritage Forum and Heritage Officer, Wicklow Co. Council, It is on display at Council Offices and in Libraries until 20th August and is open for public consultation. If you wish to make any observations, suggestions etc. as to what you would like to see as part of the Plan, please send it to the Heritage Officer, Wicklow County Council, County buildings, Wicklow Town, Co. There will also be a Public Meeting held on Thursday 30th July at 7p.m. in the Town Hall, Bray about the Heritage Plan, all are welcome.

This is the second, five-year Heritage Plan for County Wicklow, prepared by the Wicklow Heritage Forum. It carries forward the overall aim from the previous Plan of conserving the natural, built and cultural heritage of the county, and increasing awareness and enjoyment of it among all the people of Wicklow.

The actions in the Plan have been arranged under four main objectives as listed below. The actions in the Plan are the delivery mechanism through which the objectives can be achieved. Objectives:

1. To raise awareness and promote appreciation and enjoyment of heritage by all.
2. To develop and encourage best practice in order to deliver practical actions to enhance the protection of heritage in Wicklow
3. To compile information on Wicklow's heritage resource in order to better understand it and to ensure the effective use of heritage data in policy formulation and decision making in the County
4. To encourage partnership and active participation among all for the benefit of heritage in Wicklow.
