Fianna Fail meet to seek funding for Arklow harbour
Thursday, 23 April, 2009
Arklow Fianna Fail Councillors and election candidates together with Dick Roche TD, Minister for European Affairs are meeting in Dublin today (Thursday 23rd April 2009) to seek funding for improvement works at Arklow harbour.
The Minister has invited the local representatives to meet him to make the case for essential works to the harbour.
“The harbour in Arklow is an essential part of the economic and community life of Arklow Town. Many families in Arklow are employed in industries connected with the harbour and it is very important that there is continuous investment in the port facility so that it can continue to operate and be successful.
Over the last few weeks I have been in touch with the Minister that has responsibility for Marine at the Department of Transport and have been making a very strong case for funding.
Everybody knows that funding is tight at the moment, even for relatively small works, however with my colleagues in Arklow I intend to press for any funds that can be made available.
I am encouraged by the responses I have been receiving to my representations and I hope that today’s meeting will have a positive outcome” said Minister Roche.
