Superquinn must act to stop illegal dumping on Southern Cross- Brady
Wednesday 15 April, 2009
Sinn Fein councillor John Brady has called on Superquinn to take measures to clean up and stop the illegal dumping on their site on the Southern Cross road in Bray.
Cllr. Brady said "While there is a lot of uncertainty as to whether or not Superquinn are going to develop the new store which they have full planning permission for on the site along the Southern cross, the site is being used for illegal dumping, antisocial behaviour and also has an illegal encampment on it"
Brady continued "Several tonnes of domestic waste has been dumped on the site and it is becoming a serious health risk for local residents in adjoining estates such as Deerpark and Mountain view drive. Superquinn need to have the site cleaned up and secured to stop this type of activity happening. The litter warden should also be looking to prosecute anyone found to be dumping in the area."
Cllr Brady concluded "What the residents of the Southern cross need is local facilities not a dump in the midst of their community. I have recently called on Superquinn to issue a statement of intent, I am again asking them to state clearly what their intentions are for the site. Local residents should not have to suffer antisocial behaviour, illegal dumping and encampments due to inaction from Superquinn. If they want to leave it as a derelict site the council should intervene under the Derelict Sites Act and carry out the necessary work to secure the area."
