Roche delighted with ‘go-ahead’ for Lacken National School
Thursday, 12 February, 2009
Dick Roche TD, Minister for European Affairs has today (12th February 2009) expressed his delight with the go-ahead for Lacken National School to proceed to tender and construction this year.
“This project for Lacken National School has the commitment of the local community, staff and parents alike. Local residents have been very supportive of the schools initiative to develop a new three class room school and I am very pleased that their commitment and hard work over a long time have now come to fruition.
Small schools such as Lacken are essential to maintaining and sustaining rural communities and play a central part in the lives of local residents and other groups in the area. I have no doubt that the new school when
built will provide Lacken with not just an educational facility but also a community resource for generations to come.
I am very happy to have been in a position to support the school and community in their efforts. I was pleased that when I met with a delegation from the school and the Minister for Education and Science, Batt O’Keeffe TD that their project was well received and a commitment given to advance it.
Today’s news is very much welcomed and I wish the school well as they move forward to construction and the opening of a new school for the pupils, staff and the community as a whole” said Minister Roche.
