Major Hotel Operator Lined up for Kiltegan's Humewood CastleThursday, March 29 2007LALCO, the property company behind Humewood Castle in Kiltegan, Co Wicklow, is in negotiations with five-star hotel groups and is planning to sign up an operator for the Castle by the end of the year.
Hotel sources said yesterday that Lalco is in "early stage" talks with a number of operators including Grand Hyatt, Westin and the Waldorf Estoria branch of Hilton. Low-key Galway developer John Lally, who owns Lalco, spent €25m on the Castle last year. The 19th century Gothic castle, with 14 rooms, was designed by English architect William White for member of Parliament for Wicklow, William Wentworth Fitzwilliam Hume Dick, in the 1860s, and is situated on 450 acres and includes a two-bedroomed lodge. The original 18th century mansion on the Humewood estate had withstood sieges, and many of its defensive features were incorporated in the Gothic Revival structure. Prior to the sale, Humewood was privately owned by international businesswoman Renata Coleman, who had already done an extensive renovation job on the property. Meanwhile, Lalco's four-star Hilton hotels in Limerick and Kilmainham, Dublin will open in the first week and the second week in May respectively. Mr Lally paid €9.75m for the Jurys Doyle hotel site in Limerick and bought the old Nestlé site. The company is also about to submit plans for a development which will include a 180-bedroom, four-star hotel on the Sandyford site it bought last May for €110m. The site used to house FAAC Electronics. |
