Labour Launches Transport Plan for WicklowMonday, March 26 2007The Labour Party will be launching “Getting Wicklow Moving”, a plan to highlight the county’s transport priorities for the coming years. The launch will take place at 12.30 pm, Monday Mar 26th at Nicky Kelly’s Campaign Office, Main St, Arklow, Co Wicklow.
The document will be launched by Labour Party election candidate Cllr Nicky Kelly; Party Deputy Leader and TD for Wicklow, Liz McManus; and Brendan Howlin, TD for Wexford. Cllr Kelly said: “This document is the first time Wicklow has had a transport plan. Our objective is to set out the priorities for transport in the county, including a safe and good quality road network. “We want to make sure that people can get to and from work and home and can go about their family activities safely and easily. “My particular priority on election will be to sort out the N11 from The Beehive to The Tap. This simply must be made safe. It’s a scandal that it hasn’t dealt with already. Deputy McManus said: “This plan is comprehensive and covers every element of transport including rail, luas, buses and provision for walking and cycling, especially for school children. “Thousand upon thousands of Wicklow people end up stuck in traffic as they come and go every day. This document outlines the steps we feel need to be taken to address this. Deputy Howlin who was visiting Wicklow to support Nicky’s campaign said: “I wholeheartedly welcome this plan. “As TD for Wexford I have an interest in Wicklow’s transport. We share the N11, and we share an interest in developing the outer orbital route. The upgrade of the rail line from Rosslare to Dublin, which runs through Wicklow, is also something we are all pressing for.” |
