Green Party calls for ‘ePlanning’ system

Local Green Party Rep Caroline Burrell has called on Bray Town Council and Wicklow County Council to consider ‘ePlanning’, a system which allows people to apply for planning permission, make a submission or object to a planning proposal online. The system is currenty operating on a pilot basis in Dublin City Council and Mayo County Council.

Wicklow Holidaymakers Urged to Take Holiday Travel Precautions - Minister Martin

Wicklow holidaymakers planning to head for the sun in the coming weeks should take a number of precautions before leaving for the airport, according to Foreign Affairs Minister Micheál Martin.The Minister has issued a holiday alert to Wicklow holidaymakers following an increase of 20% in the number of Irish people losing their lives abroad so far this year, with over 100 deaths.

More cuts to front line services in Loughlinstown Hospital

Sinn Féin representatives from Dún Laoghaire and Bray have today revealed that Accident and Emergency Services at Loughlinstown Hospital are to be drastically cut. It is understood that from June the hospital will no longer take in admissions between the hours of 8pm and 8am. Ballybrack & Loughlinstown local election candidate Eoin Ó Broin and Bray councillor John Brady described it as "another hammer blow" to hospital services in the area.

Significant new land acquisition for Wicklow Mountains National Park

Mr. John Gormley TD, Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, today announced a significant new land acquisition for Wicklow Mountains National Park. It brings the total area of Wicklow Mountains National Park to some 20,483 hectares. This purchase substantially expands the size of the Wicklow Mountains National Park on its western boundary, adjacent to the Wicklow gap mountain lands on either side of the Laragh Hollywood Road (R756).

Plans for massacre site angers locals

A Wicklow developer has come under fire over attempts to build houses on the site of a 17th-century massacre in which hundreds of Irish peasants were slaughtered by British forces. The local authority recently granted planning permission for the development at Weston Close in Ballyguile but now residents, politicians and historians are appealing it to An Bord Pleanála.

Launch of pamphlet on local suffragette

Last night a celebration in advance of International Women's Day* took place at the home of Liz McManus TD. The evening was in honour of the achievements of Bray resident Pauline Adams, nee Colclough (1874-1975). Pauline Colclough/Adams grew up in Bray and went on to become one of the leading suffragists in the US involved in the campaign for extending the right to vote to women.

Bray Councillor and The Friends of the Orchard Meet with the HSE

EUR1.5 billion required to properly insulate and heat Wicklow Homes
(Monday 9 February, 2009)
The Renewable Energy Skills Skillnet (RESS) has warned that Ireland will struggle to achieve building efficiency ratings of 60 per cent within ten years, as envisaged by the EU. The organisation, utilising figures from a recent report by the Irish Institute for International and European Affairs, said it would cost Wicklow an estimated EUR1.5 billion alone to achieve this target by 2018.
