Greystones gets Charlesland District Shopping Centre Go AheadSaturday, December 1 2007Sean Dunne was at a Wicklow County Council showcase event for businessmen and council officials to attract development to Wicklow.
Dunne and developer Sean Mulryan were granted permission for the Charlesland District Shopping Centre, consisting of an enterprise centre, offices and a number of houses in Greystones by Wicklow County Council. In welcoming any new jobs, Derek Mitchell, a councillor with Wicklow County Council, called on the developers to urgently hand over the site for the school outlined as part of the development so building could begin in order to avoid any crisis next September. Dunne yesterday urged businesses to consider locating their companies and offices to Wicklow, offering price comparisons of €1m an acre for prime industrial development land in the Garden County compared with development land on Dublin's busy Naas Road at €7.5m an acre. Proximity to Dublin, access to the south-east, a young and skilled population and the price of industrial land. Lower planning contribution levies and cheaper commercial rates were highlighted by County Manager Eddie Sheehy. Anne Ferris, chair of Wicklow County Council, said officials were eager to tackle the situation where thousands of the county's residents commuted to jobs in the capital each day. |
