FF-2, FG-2, Lab-1

Saturday, May 26 2007

The drama at the Wicklow constituency count centre didn't get fully underway until late on Friday when Fianna Fail's Dick Roche was returned as TD on the fourth count, followed by his party collegue from Bray Joe Behan.

The Green's Dierdre de Burca, seen as a strong contender for a seat, was eliminated in the seventh count, leaving the struggle for the remaining three seats between the two Fine Gael candidates, Billy Timmins and Andrew Doyle, Labour's Liz McManus and Fianne Fail's Pat Fitzgerald.

Since Fitzgerald trail's the pack with nearly 1,000 fewer votes than Andrew Doyle, and since de Burca's transfers will likely favour Fine Gael and Labour over Fianna Fail (and Bray over Arklow), it is unlikely that Fitzgerald will survive. This will leave the final result as:

Dick Roche (FF)
Joe Behan (FF)
Liz McManus (Lab)
Billy Timmins (FG)
Andrew Doyle (FG)
