Court Date Set for Arklow Sewerage SchemeWednesday, May 9 2007An appeal to the development of the proposed Arklow Sewerage Scheme was due to be heard last November, but has been continually delayed. It has been announced that a date of July 10th has now been set.
Cllr. Andrew Doyle, Fine Gael candidate for Wicklow, in relation to Arklow Sewerage Scheme: “It is disgraceful to think that this situation has gone on as long has it has considering the Minister of the Environment is Wicklow based. He has dragged his heels on this situation and not tackled it head on. Any reasonable administration would have ensured that this critical piece of infrastructure was prioritized but the Minister obviously has other issues on his mind which he deems to be more important. This sewerage plant in Arklow was originally granted planning permission in 1999 and has been held up for one reason or another since then. This case was originally due to be heard last November but has been delayed due to a ridiculous litany of excuses. A date of July 10th has now been set, but as this is close to the court holidays, it means that the case will probably not be heard before the courts adjourn for the summer months. As a result, it will be late October at the earliest before the case is heard. This means 12 long months have been wasted thanks to legal wrangling. The people of Arklow have waited long enough for this facility and it is unfair to ask them to wait even longer for a piece of infrastructure badly needed to cope with the continually increasing population of the town.” |
