Concern Over Used Syringe Find in BrayFriday, April 27 2007Evidence of hard drug use has been found in a lane way in Bray, according to Cllr. John Brady of Sinn Féin.
"I was called to O'Byrne Lane just off the Vevay Road by a concerned resident," Brady said. "He showed me one used syringe and what appeared to be drug paraphernalia." "This is very worrying development. Residents of that area have been tormented for the past few years by illegal dumping and anti-social behaviour. Now used syringes are being left behind. This could cause an awful injury if a child found it," Brady said. "I have found and photographed evidence of drug use in other parts of town and in Arklow. It is disturbing to see this material being disposed off in residential areas," he said. Bray Town Council has plans to tackle the dumping situation in O'Byrne Lane. "However, it needs to be handled carefully. We need it to be cleaned up first. Then access for illegal dumpers has to be blocked. Lighting is needed to deprive dumpers and druggies the cover of darkness. Litter enforcement and Garda patrols are needed. If the project is not handled properly, the town runs the risk of making the area worse instead of better. It can't be done piecemeal, otherwise it will be a disaster," Brady concluded. |
