Concern Over Safety on Florentine Centre SiteSaturday, April 7 2007A giant hole full of water right in the middle of Bray has been called a "health and safety menace" by Cllr. John Brady. "A massive foundation was dug for the stalled Florentine Centre project. That hole has now filled up with rain water," Brady said.
"I was taken on a tour of the area recently by local traders. We went up to the top floor of a local building to get a better view. The hole is full of water. It is full of junk. There are vermin in the area. Illegal dumping is going on there. It is just a nightmare," Brady said. "The site is not properly secured. Youngsters have been seen messing around in there. We could have a tragedy on our hands. Bray town council owns a portion of the land. The onus is on the council to secure this site," Brady said. "Hundreds of car parking spaces have been lost. Traders are suffering badly because parts of the town are so awkward to get to," he added. An Bord Pleanála is due to make a decision on the future of the project on April 16th. "If no ruling is made, the town council should take the land back, secure it, and ultimately make it useful again for townspeople," Brady said. |
