Candidate Calls for "Community Charter" for WicklowFriday, April 27 2007Ms Cawley, a former Greystones town councillor who is campaigning for a Dáil seat, called on Wicklow County Council to implement a "community charter".
She spoke of the need to "reform the planning system so that community benefit is an integral part of any major proposal and not just an add on or means used by developers to achieve zoning". Ms Cawley said nobody in Wicklow was addressing quality of life issues or the effect of planning decisions on commuting, management fees, or the cost of childcare. On her website she says "Wicklow is a rapidly growing county with a huge number of challenges in terms of sustainable development, planning, transport and commuter issues. People throughout Wicklow have told me they want a new voice to better represent their views and concerns. The bad planning, the lack of community, infrastructure and vital public services are major priorities for Wicklow people and I will fight these issues on your behalf". |
