Call to Restore Avoca Recycling FacilitiesFriday, April 27 2007Cllr. John Brady has called on Wicklow County Council to restore much needed and very popular recycling facilities in Avoca. Brady is Sinn Féin's candidate in the upcoming general election.
"This picturesque village does very well in the annual Tidy Towns Competition. Now they will be going in to it this year with one hand tied behind their backs," Brady said. "The green waste facility at the recycling centre has been removed. This was a very popular and well used service. Now residents are worried that clippings and brush will be disposed of willy-nilly around town. I support their call to have the green waste facility re-instated," said the Sinn Féin councillor. "A number of bottle banks around town have been removed. I am calling on the County Council to put those back as well. Recycling should be easy and convenient. People lead busy lives nowadays. If recycling becomes difficult, bottles and cans will just get thrown in with regular waste and clutter up our landfills," Brady said. "Another issue that has to be taken care of are the rubbish bins on the footpaths. Those need to be fixed or replaced. Again, if they are not available, many people will simply throw their litter on the ground -- hardly the way for a Tidy Towns contender to gear up for the competition," Brady concluded. |
