Brady Welcomes Planning Permission for Bray Florentine CentreFriday, April 20 2007Cllr. John Brady of Sinn Féin has welcomed planning permission for the Florentine Centre in Bray.
"This project has dragged on for far too long and is having a terrible impact on the town," Brady said. His comments followed An Bord Pleanála's decision on Friday to approve the plan that includes shops, apartments and car parking. "We won't know the exact details until the applicant has been informed by post. However, this project has turned in to a 12-year saga. Shoppers have lost precious parking. Traders are losing thousands of euro a week. The site is ill-protected and dangerous," Brady said. "I am calling on the town to ensure this project moves ahead quickly. There is a rumour that the owners, Florentine Properties Ltd., will wait to see what will happen on the Bray Golf Club lands. This would be unacceptable. The council needs to lay down stringent time frames. There should be heavy financial penalties if this project is not started immediately and completed quickly," Brady said. "Right now there is a massive hole in the ground full of dirty, stagnant water. This area needs to be redeveloped. It will give people a reason to come back to Bray and revitalise the town," Brady concluded. |
