The Arklow Fame collided with the railway viaduct, near Barton Bridge, whilst travelling to Cargill PLC, an international provider of food, agricultural and risk management products and services.

The vessel was held above the water line but was ready to continue transit again within the hour.

Network Rail inspectors were sent to examine the damage and decided to suspend rail services for a temporary period, normal service was soon resumed.
