AO Site Still A Menace, says Brady

Saturday, April 21 2007

Cllr. John Brady has renewed calls for the old AO Smith plant in Bray to be properly closed.

"The site needs to be secured before someone is killed in it.

The hoarding has been pulled off. There is a serious leak inside. No one seems to be doing anything about it. The owners certainly aren't," Brady said.

"This is not the first time I have raised this matter in public or at the council. The site is just too easy to get in to. It is a magnet for vandalism, drinking parties and anti-social behaviour of all sorts," Brady said.

"I recently asked the council to declare the building a derelict site. That would have allowed us to go in and properly secure it. Then we could have passed the bill on to the owners. I recently heard a rumour that the owner wants to put apartments there. I would prefer that these industrial areas be kept for employment," Brady said.

"Letting the building fall apart like this probably suits the owner since they can claim at a later point that the ruin is unsalvagable and is only fit to be demolished," Brady said.
