€8,000 for Elderly in WicklowSaturday, April 28 2007Mr. Dick Roche, T.D. Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government has noted funding of €8,000 approx. for the elderly in Wicklow announced under the Community Supports Scheme for Older People.
The Community Supports for Older People provides funding for initiatives to improve the security and social support of older individuals by means of a community-based grant scheme. Security devices included under the scheme are as follows: - Window locks, door locks & door chains designed to strengthen points of entry to the dwelling - Security lighting & smoke alarms - The once of cost of installing socially monitored alarm systems "I welcome this small but nonetheless important funding for the elderly in Wicklow. I am well aware of the important work carried out by the groups under the Community Support Scheme. I also realise how important it is for older to people to feel secure and safe in their homes. The works carried out under this scheme go someway in assisting older people in this regard. " Said Minister Roche. The following groups will receive funding: Ø Wicklow Active Retirement Association. €4,771 Ø Carnew Community Care. €295 Ø Ashford Community Active Retired Group €600 Ø Bray Active Retirement Association €2,354
