€72,000 for Physical Education in Wicklow's Secondary SchoolsMonday, March 26 2007Mr. Dick Roche, Wicklow T.D. and Minister for the Environment, has welcomed the announcement that €4,000 will be provided to every post-primary school in Wicklow towards the cost of replacing and upgrading PE equipment.
The Minister said, "This funding will allow for the replacement of older equipment with modern new equipment. This will facilitate PE and sporting activities in schools, which everyone now recognises is a very important aspect of school life. Each school will receive the funding this week. I am especially happy that schools in my own town, such as the Loretto, the CBS, the Presentation College and St. Thomas's will be receiving this valuable funding." This is a once-off measure following on from a similar type grant at primary level delivered to schools at the end of 2006. This funding package is being made as part of this Government's continued commitment to modernise facilities in schools throughout the country and in recognition of the key role of physical exercise within the school environment. |
