€5.1m Sewerage Scheme for Dunlavin VillageSaturday, April 7 2007Mr. Dick Roche, T.D., Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, has approved Wicklow County Council's design proposals to upgrade and expand the wastewater infrastructure in Dunlavin under the Dunlavin Sewerage Scheme. The Scheme will cost an estimated €5.1 million and has been approved for funding under his Department's Water Services Investment Programme 2005 * 2007.
The Scheme will involve the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant at Milltown, the decommissioning of the existing treatment works at Logatryna, and the rehabilitation of the sewerage collections systems in Milltown, Logatryna and Dunlavin. The improved infrastructure will cater for current and future residential and commercial development in Dunlavin and environs, and will also significantly improve water quality in the Greese and Barrow rivers. "My approval of the scheme design now allows Wicklow County Council to prepare contract documents for the Dunlavin Scheme, with the view to seeking tenders in due course," the Minister said. "The provision of adequate wastewater infrastructure is essential to support new development and attract inward investment to any area. Overall, the Scheme will have a very positive environmental benefits and will provide a solid platform for the economic and social development of Dunlavin for many years to come". "I am absolutely delighted to be in a position to make this very important announcement today and given the importance of the scheme locally, I will be urging Wicklow County Council to press ahead with preparation of the contract documents for the Dunlavin Scheme as soon as possible. This is another piece of vital infrastructure delivered for the people of Wicklow and I will continue to provide and secure the necessary funding where it is required for Wicklow," concluded Minister Roche. |
