€450,000 Allocated for Russborough House ConservationWednesday, April 11 2007Mr Dick Roche, T.D., Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, today (11th April) announced €450,000 in funding to support ongoing conservation work at Russborough House, one of Ireland's finest heritage houses.
The Minister is providing €450,000 to continue the conservation works in 2007 on unaddressed portions of the roof and masonry repairs to features of the house, this follows on from very significant grants in the past three years. The Minister confirmed the Government's commitment to the future of the house and its estate, which he described as "a gem in the heart of Wicklow, which is of international importance and of huge significance for tourism development not only for Wicklow but for the whole region." The announcement was made in the context of the Minister's 2007 Programme for the Conservation and Protection of Built Heritage. The Minister also announced that he would be making ?150,000 available to Wicklow County Council to support their Architectural Protection Grants Scheme, Minister Roche said, "this provision of this funding is continuing proof of this Government's commitment to the preservation of the Built Heritage and our faith in the ability of local authorities to deliver heritage supports on the ground." |
