€43 Million in Funding for Housing in WicklowMonday, April 23 2007Mr. Dick Roche T.D., Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, today (23 April, 07) announced the provision of over €43 million in capital funding for the local authority housing construction and acquisition programme in Wicklow County Council and in the three Town Councils in Arklow, Bray and Wicklow.
Minister Roche said The allocations to the Wicklow local authorities will cover expenditure on over 320 houses currently under construction and fund expenditure on some 300 new houses due to start construction or be acquired this year. The provisions under the main housing programme will allow for the construction of a number of housing projects in various towns in the county including Ashford, Blessington, Carnew, Greystones and Dunlavin and will contribute towards addressing the housing needs in the county. The Minister also urged the authorities to proceed to commence as many housing projects as possible in 2007. The Minister has also allocated €1.5 million to Bray Town Council for final payments on the completed refurbishment project at James Everett Park and for the continuation of the pilot phase of the refurbishment work in Fassaroe estate. The Minister was also pleased to provide funding for the installation of central heating in local authority dwellings. In conclusion the Minister said, The funding of €1.5 million I am providing today to the Wicklow authorities will enable central heating to be provided in some 180 dwellings around the county which do not have this vital facility. Wicklow County Council will recieve €28,450,000, including €1,450,000 for central heating and improvement works. Arklow Town Council will recieve €3,000,000 and Wicklow Town Council will recieve €2,818,000, including €318,000 for central heating and improvement works. Bray Town Council will recieve €8,900,000, including €2,400,000 for central heating and improvement works. |
