€2m for Disabled andRepair Grants in WicklowTuesday, April 3 2007Mr. Dick Roche, Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, has announced capital allocations totalling €2 million to Wicklow County Council for the payment of disabled persons and essential repairs grants to private houses in 2007. Announcing the allocation the Minister said "I am delighted to provide this level of funding for the payment of disabled persons and essential repairs grants for Wicklow in 2007. This level of funding represents a substantial increase on Wicklow County Council's expenditure of over €1.6 million on these schemes in 2006. This funding will continue to ensure that the housing needs of older people and people with a disability living in Wicklow is given the priority it deserves." Expenditure by Wicklow County Council under the Disabled Persons and Essential Repairs Grant Schemes during the lifetime of this Government, from 1997 to 2006, totalled some €9.2 million with almost 1,000 grants paid. "This represents some 1,000 older people or people with a disability, living in Wicklow, who this Government have assisted in remaining in their own homes and in their own communities" the Minister said. |
