€26,000 Funding for Wi-Fi Access in Wicklow LibrariesFriday, March 23 2007Mr. Dick Roche, T.D., the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government has announced the allocation of grant-aid of €26,000 to support the provision free Wi-Fi access for users of Wicklow's public libraries.
Minister Roche is allocating €2,000 for each of the 13 branch libraries in Co. Wicklow for this exciting project. The provision of Wi-Fi infrastructure by library authorities will allow people to visit their local library and to have free Internet access either using their own laptops or the libraries' public access computers or laptops. Speaking in relation to the project Minister Roche said, "this is great news for public libraries in Wicklow and underlines what an important facility your local library is. Co. Wicklow is at the heart of a modern international economy and the provision of Wi-Fi to the public free of charge will reinforce the role of the Internet and information technology in connecting our communities, both locally and internationally." "I am now urging local library authorities to take advantage of this opportunity so the 350,000 people that visit Wicklow's branch libraries annually can benefit from this initiative as soon as possible", concluded Minister Roche. |
