100 Jobs Expected from Company Move to Arklow

Irish plastics thermoforming and extrusion company Holfeld Plastics is transferring its main operations from Kilmacanogue to a larger site in the south of the county at the Avoca River Park in Arklow (formerly the site of IFI).

No jobs will be lost in the 45km-move to the much larger new premises, which the company said will allow them to expand both its product range and production capacity. Over 100 jobs will be transferred to the new facility, and the workforce is expected to grow from 150 to 250 over the next three years.

Holfeld said it has outgrown the Kilmacanogue site, which it moved to in the late 1980s. Originally housed in a purpose-built extrusion and vacuum-forming facility, the company has since built three additional factories covering over 100,000 square feet.

Operations manager John Cullen said: “We’re taking the move step by step in order to keep both plants operating and expect the process to take 10-12 weeks. All of our equipment is being moved down to the new site a couple of machines at a time. We’re very busy moving them, setting them up and getting them running then going back to fetch some more.”
