In what has been described as a magnificent display of boxing skills today in Belfast's £100 million Odyssey arena, Irish Captain Jim Moore powered on to overwhelm Turkey's 'Firat Karagollo' at the World Amateur Championships. Displaying skills normally associated with professional boxing the Arklow man took no chances and brought the fight to his opponent from the start convincingly outclassing the Turkish boxer in the end to guarantee his place in the next round of the tournament.
Spectators at the bout described the atmosphere as positively electric as Moore punched his way to victory with the crowd cheering his every

blow and raising the roof off the Odyssey arena. Not an easy fight for the County Wicklow boxer he trailed in the first round and despite all his best efforts was still behind at the end of the second.
Karagollo's long left proved to be a problem and by mid point Moore was down 12-8. However never showing any sign of defeat the Arklow man came back in the third round and turned his opponent into the ropes with some heavy punching to the mid section closing the gap to 18-16. He went on to take a great fourth round which ultimately secured his win over Karagollo. The scoring from the judges was even at 24-24 but Moore won on a count back of punches indicating 118 against 82 in his favor.
The Irish Captain will now go on to fight American Anthony Thompson for a place in the final. He is of course now guaranteed a Bronze medal and hopes are high in the squad that he may in fact take the title.
