This Week Will Tell a Tale

April 9th, 2001

With just six Eircom League Premier Division matches to go, Bray Wanderers face the prospect of playing three times in an eight day period that could decide if European football comes to the Carlisle Grounds next season. Starting off with a home tie against UCD on Friday (April 6th) at 7.45 p.m. before taking on Bohemians at Dalymount Park on Tuesday (April 10th) and then return to Wicklow to entertain Kilkenny City on Good Friday (April 13th).

At this stage, wešve a real chance of achieving a top three finishš

Wanderers Prospect Of 3 Games
remarked manager Pat Devlin on Wednesday. For the first time in ages, wešve virtually a full squad to choose from. By beating Rovers, wešve given ourselves a real opportunity.

And hešs undaunted by the task of three games in just over a week. OWešve done it before and therešs no reason why we canšt do it againš. The match against the Studentšs provides the Seasiders with the platform to create history. After going ten matches unbeaten on their own turf in all competition since last September, victory over the Belfield side will see the Green and Whitešs create a new club record.

With St. Patrickšs Athletic beating Bohemians 2-1 last Tuesday at Richmond Park, the race for UEFA Cup and Inter-Toto Cup positions is hotting up. On Friday, the Saintšs host Longford Town at Inchicore and the Gypsies take on Shelbourne at Tolka Park.

We can only worry about ourselvesš said Devlin. Out fate is in our hands. Therešs a lot to play for with 18 points still available. On the team front, Dave Campbell is banned. But both Eddie Gormley and Jody Lynch are expected to return after missing the team's last two fixtures because of suspension and injury.

Both Com Tresson and Jason Byrne need one goal to become the first Wanderer to score more than ten League goals in the top flight whilst goalkeeper John Walsh goes in search of his 50th clean sheet for his home town club.

PROBABLE BRAY SQUAD: John Walsh, Jimmy Fyffe, Josh Moran, Colm Tresson, Maurice Farrell, Mick Doohan, Wesley Charles, Stephen Gifford, Barry OšConnor, Keith Long, Jason Byrne, Philip Keogh, Kieran OTarzanš OšBrien, Dave Williamson, Ciaran Ryan, Stephen Fox, Matt Britton, Jody Lynch, Eddie Gormley, Gary Smith.
