Newtown Take Under-11 Shield Title in Cracking Final

Newtown came from behind twice and then scored the winner to take the title in a very exciting final of division one of the under-11 shield against Wicklow Town on Sunday last in Kilcoole. Wicklow got off to a dream start in the opening minutes when Mark Vickers broke through the Newtown defence to put his side into the lead.
However, Newtown kept their heads up and got back on level terms

through a goal by Colin Odlum who had a superb game throughout. Wicklow went ahead again shortly after half time when Shane Whoriskey rocked the Newtown net.
However, Newtown, who were the far better side on the day, never game up and after mounting constant pressure on the Wicklow defence they equalised again through Christopher Nugent and Barry Davis. Then, with just seven minutes to go, Newtown's constant pressure paid off when a fine shot by Barry Davis proved too much for Wicklow goalkeeper, Conor Jameson.
