Senior Football 'B' Championship
Avondale CC 1-16 Arklow CC 0-7
Avondale Community College started the defence of their Senior Football 'B' championship with a comprehensive 1-16 to 0-7 win over Arklow Community College in Ballymoney last Wednesday.
Playing with the advantage of a strong wind that blew directly down the pitch Avondale settled quickly with points from captain Roy Byrne; Clive Heffernan and Stephen Conway. The Arklow side found it difficult to convert their possession into scores despite excellent performances from Patrick Monaghan, Christopher Kavanagh and Daniel Harte. As their side team struggled to find the rhythm that had secured a great win over the CBS, Avondale grew in confidence and playing some attractive football, scoring four additional points before Michael Sheehan effectively secured victory with a goal in the 24th minute.
It was always going to be an uphill struggle for the Arklow lads in the second half. To their credit they took the game to their opponents but a tendency to shoot from too far out or to go for goal from difficult positions left them with too much to do. As their confidence diminished Avondale regained their control with Peter Merrigan and Michael O Brien in commanding form. Additional points from Mark McDonald and Christopher Kennedy gave them a flattering, if fully deserved victory.
For Avondale T.J. Carter; Peter Merrigan; Brian Burke; Michael O Brien; Roy Byrne; Clive Heffernan and Stephen Conway were most impressive in what was essentially an excellent team performance. Keith Manley, Patrick Monaghan,Christopher and Patrick Kavanagh and David Harte were most impressive for Arklow CC.

The Junior Camogie games betwwen St. Mary's and St. Kevin's CC and the A2 match between Colaiste Bhride and Avondale CC were both abandoned due to the incessant rain that fell last Friday. Great credit is due to the 4 teams for lining out in such atricious conditions.
