Hurlers Falling Behind Due To Foot And Mouth Scare
March 21st, 2001
Wicklow hurlers still have six matches to play in the Allianz National League but there is still no sign of them playing as much as one game due to the Foot and Mouth Precautions unless the Government announcement that some events can resume from next week-end has a more positive bearing on things.
It is probably that club matches will resume from Saturday March 24th and, indeed, a number of fixtures for both the county football and hurling leagues have been made at local level for both 24th and 25th. However, it remains to be seen if the relaxation on precautions will stretch to inter-county fixtures.
The hurlers will certainly have a packed schedule because as well as the six games they will also face the round robin section of the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship which is due to take place in early April.
The county senior footballers have two rounds left in the league and their championship meeting with Carlow is not due to take place until May 13th.
