Wicklow Hurlers Accomplish Difficult Task by Beating Kildare

Super Wicklow faced a hard task in the All-Ireland Intermediate Hurling championship when they took on Kildare in Newbridge but came through with flying colours to win by 2-14 to 0-16.
It was no more than this Wicklow side deserved having suffered a few narrow defeats in the league this year by what would be considered superior opposition. The track record against Kildare has not been great but Wicklow certainly stood up to the task on Saturday night last.
A goal by Wayne O'Gorman in the 52nd minute of the second half gave Wicklow a lead that they held right up to the end. Kildare led by 0-11 to 1-6 at the interval and things were looking ominous for Wicklow who had trailed for most of the first half.
However, the visitors put in a superb second half performance and it was the O'Gorman goal that sealed matters. Kildare tried hard to come back but Wicklow made sure of this one and a place in the next round.
Scorers for Wicklow were: M. Moran (1-4), J. O'Neill (0-5), W. O'Gorman (1-2) and D. Hyland (0-3).
