Footballers Lucky to Survive Poor Second Half Performance

Wicklow's senior footballers threw away a six point half-time lead and were lucky to escape defeat by drawing their Leinster football meeting with Carlow in Newbridge yesterday. Having completely outplayed their opponents in the first half, Wicklow should have cruised to victory in the second period.

Tommy Gill to bring about a draw when the Garden County side found themselves a point in arrears in the dying seconds of the game. If there was a positive aspect to this match it was the fact that Wicklow showed enough spirit to fight back and force a draw.
Carlow were totally overcome by Wicklow in the first half with Ronan Coffey at full forward opening up the opposing defence. Other forwards such as Tommy Gill, Keith Byrne, Tony Hannon, Shane O'Neill and Thomas Harney ran riot and left no answer for Carlow who should have felt they had a mammoth task to perform in the second
