County Wicklow Man Killed in Manhattan

By Tony Murphy

A County Wicklow man has died following severe injuries he received in an accident in New York last Saturday. He was Darren Hudson from Enniskerry who was the pillion passenger on a motorcycle that was involved in a collision with a truck in Mathattan.

While the driver of the motorcycle died instantly, Mr. Hudson was taken to hospital with severe injuries but died a few days later. He had spent several years in America and was the owner of the Spancil Hill pub.

His death has come as a major shock to the large Irish community in New York where the later Mr. Hudson was well known and very popular with everyone. The Spancil Hill pub is a very homely venue frequented by the Irish community.

A special service for family and friends will be held in Enniskerry tomorrow.
