insurance cover as long as they drive within a particular speed limit. A GPS monitoring system installed in their car records their speeds. The speed is monitored 24 hours a day at O'Reilly Cullen Insurances in Dublin.
The system is a joint venture between AXA (formerly P.M.P.A.), O'Reilly Cullen and Tuam based Celtrak. According to Dermot Cullen who was instrumental in bringing about the idea, a 23 year old provisional licence holder could save almost £800 on the first year and more than £2,900 over three years.
`Already there is huge interest in the scheme and we have been receiving numerous enquiries from County Wicklow especially from young people in rural areas who need their own transport to get to work each day but cannot put a car on the road due to high insurance costs', added Dermot.
He said - `Those who come onto our scheme and adhere to the speed limit will continue to enjoy substantially lower motor insurance costs and will also help to make our roads safer. Those who do not stick with the rules will lose their 45 per cent discount that goes with the scheme'.
