The long wait on a Government decision on decentralising various departments to different parts of the country is expected to end soon and Co. Wicklow will be hoping to get its share. Junior Minister, Martin Cullen gave an indication yesterday that a decision would be made in the coming months.
A major effort was made in Co. Wicklow to make a case for decentralisation to the county and a detailed submission was made to the Minister for Finance, Charlie McCreevy on the issue.
A committee, under the Chairmanship of Councillor George Jones, and

made up of representatives from local authorities and the business sector in the county, held several meetings before coming up with an excellent submission that made a case for almost every town and village in the county.
Greystones, Arklow, Wicklow and Bray were particularly targeted by the committee with the case being made that many civil servants reside in Co. Wicklow anyway so they would be helped rather than disrupted by a move to the county.
