Blessington man and his life long friend Max Conroy who he stabbed sixteen times two years ago. Byrne had denied the charge but was found guilty by a jury.
Byrne will be sentenced when various reports are completed but he can be sent back to Ireland to serve the prison term and be able to avail of visitations rights by his family and friends in County Wicklow. It is thought that sentence will be passed before the end of September.
The crime caused an element of tension in the small town of Blessington where the two men were known as being best pals since their childhood days. Max Conroy was in Panama visiting Byrne when he suffered the horrific death.
However, the family of Max Conroy said yesterday that while they were happy with the verdict, they understood the trauma being experienced by the Byrne family.
