Gardai are working in conjunction with Irish Rail to to watch out for vandalism to overhead DART lines which caused huge disruption in the train service yesterday. Damage to the cables at Seapoint in Dublin affected the service up to 2 o'clock yesterday and caused widespread chaos for commuters in north Wicklow.
According to Mr. Barry Kenny from Ianrod Eireann the problem is a serious one and the

company has held a number of meetings with Gardai to ensure that further acts of vandalism to the cables will be monitoried and hopefully stopped.
Mr. Kenny pointed out that the problem was caused by heavy objects that were thrown at the cables around the Seapoint area which rendered it impossible to run a proper service to north Wicklow. While there is concern that the same problem will occur he hoped that with the help of the Gardai, the matter can be solved.
The service has been thrown into chaos on a number of occasions in the past year which has caused huge problems for daily travellers. A mud slide in Killiney last year affected the service for days and threw a heavier amount of cars on an already traffic saturated road.
Gardai are keeping a watchful on various areas between Greystones and the city which may be deemed susceptible to vandals and they are hoping to curb if not totally wipe out the problem over a period of time.
