March 20th, 2002
By Tony Murphy
Father Aidan Troy who has shown outstanding service and leadership in the Holy Cross primary school in Belfast will be honoured next month in his old school, St. Brendan's College, Bray.
He will be the first receipient of the St. Brendan's Past Pupil's Union `Roll of Honour' award which is designed to recognise the achievements of a past pupil of the school. It is envisaged that this will be an annual event.
Fr. Tory came to prominence when he was pictured shielding children who were under siege from Loyalists as they made their way to school. He played an heroic role in taking part in heated discussions to solve the issue.
He will be presented with his award at a reception on April 12th in the Royal Hotel, Bray at 9 p.m. which will be preceded by a Mass celebrated by Fr. Troy at 7-30 p.m. in the Holy Redeemer Church.
The reception will be semi-formal with wine and light refreshments and will offer the perfect opportunity to meet up with old friends . Tickets are E20 and may be obtained by contacting the school or one of the following: The Larder, Main Street, Bray; Kinsella Interiors, Main Street, Bray; Tony Bellew 01-2822317; Ken Lambe 2860997; John Flynn 2865865, Tommy Kinsella 2863338; Gerry Lyster 087-2608871; Lar Gilmore 087-2582623; David Kelly 2762684.
